Written during the McCarthy era, Susannah is based loosely on the Apocryphal tale of Susannah and the Elders. Set in New Hope Valley, TN, Susannah, a pretty and well-mannered young woman of humble origins, is faced with hostility from her church community. Alongside local and regional performers in this site-specific and immersive production of Susannah, Marble City Opera’s production features Metropolitan Opera Singer, David Crawford starring as Preacher Blitch. Travel back in time with Marble City Opera to see this American classic opera, staged at John Sevier’s home at Marble Springs historic site.
